Do you know how you get respect? You give other people the respect they deserve. Or in some cases don't deserve at all. Like for instance, a coach that acts like part of the team and fails to enforce any rules or structure to a practice. But they're still your COACH, so you still GIVE THEM RESPECT such as NOT running your mouth for LITERALLY an HOUR at what is called practice but should really be renamed to social time in a gym. I do not know any other way to deal with this situation other than being very angry but STILL SILENT and replaying the scene I would like to make with a dramatic outburst in my head, one that I will never follow through on BECAUSE I KNOW HOW TO HAVE A LITTLE RESPECT. I wouldn't actually subject 35 of my teammates to my bitching, even though everything I want to say to them is in no way off the mark of things that need to be said. Do you know why I don't say them? Because I hold no position of authority. They are all things a COACH should be saying, and should have said a very long time ago. And although it frustrates me to the point of not wanting to be part of that team anymore, one thing I'm good at is KNOWING MY PLACE.
Recently I've noticed that there are a number of people who do not know there place and do not have any respect. I'm not trying to play myself off as a saint here, I don't always deserve respect. But I do usually get it, even in the times where you wouldn't be wrong to deny me of it. Why? Because I give it to other people. And not just the people I decide are worth my effort. To everyone. Because I for one do not enjoy being disrespected. I like getting what I want, within reason, and if you're a polite person and atleast attempt to show respect in a situation, people are much more willing to work with you and like you.
STOP ASKING FOR THE DOOR TO BE SLAMMED IN YOUR FACE.
There's not a single thing more rewarding to me than leaving a good, productive practice. It makes me more happy than almost anything else, sometimes even winning competitions. Why? Because I got something done. IT'S CALLED TEAMWORK PEOPLE. LEARN THE BASICS OF IT. There's nothing that pisses me off more than leaving a practice that was -10% productive and annoying. I don't like doing crunches because 30 of the 36 TEAMMATES can't shut their mouths. It's a waste of my time. It's a waste of your time. It's annoying, and angering, and it's immature. Grow up.
There's a time and a place for joking around and socializing. I'm all for team bonding. But the middle of practice isn't the time to share your stories. Everyone has a cell phone. That's what they're for, people. Practice should be team bonding without talking. I love love love when my team just shuts up and works together and gets things done. THAT would be worthy of respect.
Someone please show me why I work so hard to respect the people around me. Because not getting any in return today, makes me think it's worthless. I guarantee you won't like it when my attitude towards you that you take for granted just disappears.
It's not hard people.
